Controller/Finance Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

The position of Controller/Finance Manager will lead the company’s corporate accounting function along with a high degree of involvement with project-based accounting/finance needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all internal accounting and finance activities relating to the firm, its growing portfolio of wholly-owned and joint venture real estate assets and the firm’s on-going development pipeline. The Controller/Finance Manager will also handle oversight of all accounting and tax reporting for the family office of the principal owner.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mature and talented hands-on leader to join a small and collaborative team and contribute to the continued growth of an entrepreneurial, privately-owned real estate development platform. The successful candidate will have at least ten years of accounting and finance experience, ideally in real estate, and have experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive and operating teams. This person will use their technical skillset to implement processes and procedures to include timely and accurate reporting, forecasting, cash management, operating company cash flows and systems recommendations. This position will report to the firm’s Chief Financial Officer/Director of Asset Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in a fast-paced, service-oriented real estate company. The candidate must be a team player who possesses proven leadership and communication skills and have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. In addition, they should possess the following qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of MS Office including a high level of ability with Excel as well as experience with QuickBooks or real estate accounting software
  • Understanding of deal structures and the development process
  • Financial forecasting
  • Exceptionally well-organized, able to adapt quickly to competing and changing priorities while closely monitoring critical dates and departmental obligations
  • Impeccable integrity and ethics. Trustworthy, discrete and unflappable
  • Provide oversight to the cash management process and liaise with our banking partners as well as lead the cash management and forecasting for all funds under management. 
  • Manage the process for the delivery of investor communications such as capital calls, distributions, account statements, K-1s and ad hoc client / consultant requests as needed
  • Provide direct leadership and oversight to the accounting team and any third-party property management firms on the review and approval of the monthly reporting packages, budgets and tenant common area expense reimbursement billing for all wholly-owned and joint venture entities.
  • Minimum of ten years of accounting experience in the real estate fund administration and / or the public accounting sector
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Excel and experience with real estate general ledger accounting systems (Quickbooks, MRI, Yardi and Kardin)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • BA/BS in accounting, business, finance or related.
