Director of Operations


Neon Marketplace™, New England’s fastest growing convenience retailer, providing fresh delicious food, packaged goods and gasoline, is seeking an experienced candidate to serve as Director of Operations. In this capacity, the Director of Operations will oversee all aspects of daily operations including the expansion of our store footprint to over 30 new locations within the next 24 months.

The position is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day operations. The Director of Operations shall:

  • Lead our culture of excellence across our store footprint by directing our stores to deliver delicious fresh food, in clean and convenient settings, and provide industry leading customer service.
  • Develop a strong team culture and employment brand.
  • Maximize store-level profitability by creating and managing appropriate incentives for store managers to optimize revenue streams, minimize controllable expenses, and lead and develop high performing teams.
  • Analyze income statement and utilize reports to ensure store-level profitability. Analyze results and trends from audits (internal and external) and take the appropriate action to resolve/address issues.
  • Meet or exceed key performance metric targets/projections, including budgeted food and merchandise gross profit
  • Oversee the development and management of promotional programs across our stores.
  • Oversee the development and management of Neon’s online and related-instore activities, including building and developing third-party delivery strategies, developing Neon’s social media brand and promotions, etc.
  • Manage inventory to maximize sales, control costs and reduce waste; proactively recognize trends across the store. Oversee cash management procedures.
  • Observe and evaluate direct reports job performance against mission critical goals.
  • Connect with the community to establish positive relationships, development and store success.
  • Assist in new site location and the development and construction of new stores.
  • Develop an efficient new store opening process.
  • Conduct management team meetings/ store meetings and encourage on-going open communication, feedback and follow-up.
  • Lead change initiatives, championing programs and educating team members on the reason and need for change. Ensure programs are executed according to design, integrated and sustained.
  • Ensure conditions across the store meet or exceed standards for safety, service, and overall operational efficiency by analyzing opportunities and ensuring execution of established policies, procedures, practices and programs. Adhere to work designs and implement improvement actions across the store. Manage all safety programs and ensure proper execution and compliance. Report and document all customer and associate incidences in the appropriate time frame. Ensure compliance to all federal and local laws and to all company policies and procedures.
  • Create and sustain an inclusive employee and store-level atmosphere by taking intentional steps to understand the diversity of the team and encourage mutual understanding and respect while promoting a productive, engaged team environment. Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred
  • Experience managing store-level operations and / or regions within a best-in-class convenience for food retailer (e.g. Sheetz, Wawa, Panera Bread, Chipotle, etc.).
  • Experience leading, selecting, training, performance management of staff, sales building, labor allocation & scheduling, managing expenses.
  • Experience effectively implementing change and demonstrated results in execution.
  • Experienced in store operations, including foodservice.
  • Flexible availability based on business needs.
  • Leadership experience in a fast-paced retail, food service, or fuel environment preferred.
  • Serve Safe Certification.
