JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Overview:
The Loan Originator will work closely with its principals. The individual will be responsible for helping to build and create value in the company’s private loan portfolio through rigorous, hands-on asset and portfolio management, originations, and detailed underwriting of various private loan investment opportunities.

Essential Functions:
• Asset management of the loan portfolio
• Book of business with the ability to source new originations opportunities
• Assisting in the underwriting of new loan investment opportunities
• Managing all aspects of the construction draw process
• Communicating with investors
• Assistance with general loan administration
• Monitor asset and market performance as needed, specifically in the Greater Boston area
• Evaluation of borrower performance relative to the business plan, coordinating/completing construction inspections, communication with local brokers on market trends and comparable
• Work with existing borrowers to evaluate and underwrite new investment opportunities
• Asset-level due diligence, sub-market analysis, and working with third-party construction inspector to evaluate  construction budget as applicable
• Communicate with investors during and after loan closing
• Completion of written loan closing summaries and documentation of investor co-investments
• Work closely with internal accounting team to approve construction draws and confirm timely payments by borrowers
• Work closely with Portfolio Managers to develop underwriting and loan origination

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is an established, family-owned real estate company with three primary business lines:

i.  Real Estate Investment & Management
ii. Real Estate Private Lending
iii. Publicly-traded REIT

In the real estate private lending business, our client provides short-term bridge capital to real estate investors and developers. Specifically, the firm finances non-owner-occupied residential property, all income producing property, development/renovation projects and land. Our client’s parent company acquires all types of real estate (debt or equity transactions) and concentrates on quality hospitality sector investments. The firm strategically targets investments that present attractive yields and determines which would significantly benefit from their fully-integrated platform of operating companies.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-10 years of demonstrated success in real estate commercial banking
• Self-starter with an entrepreneurial personality
• Motivation and capacity to deal with the challenges and opportunities of growing a business
• Strong real estate finance and asset management experience including a background in commercial banking or private lending
• Ability to travel within local markets and foster relationships to feed a continuous pipeline of deals
• Desire and ability to work in an entrepreneurial role outside of the office as well as the initiative and resourcefulness to  manage people and projects independently
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple deals concurrently
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills
• Geographic background in New England
   o Experience in Northern New England, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Southern Connecticut is a plus
