Portfolio Controller

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Portfolio Controller will focus on accounting, cash management and financial reporting for a series of private, close-end real estate investment funds. The candidate will have prior experience in fund level and/or property accounting, possess strong quantitative skills and preferably will have worked in an institutional real estate environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the monthly closing process for the funds, including general ledger monitoring and maintenance, financial statement preparation, and the preparation of the monthly client statements
  • Responsible for the review and approval of the monthly property financial reporting packages and monitoring the close out of the liquidated investments for a portfolio of real estate assets
  • Assist in the fund-level cash management and forecasting
  • Compute and monitor fund liquidity, cash flow and net worth for the funds
  • Assist in the completion of annual audit and tax reporting processes
  • Prepare quarterly and annual REIT tests to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws
  • Process capital calls, partner distributions and client account statements
  • Participate in the completion of ad hoc investor and consultant requests as needed
  • Participate in accounting team projects and initiatives as required by the Director of Finance
  • Assist with management company reporting, including the preparation of monthly expense allocation reports and the review of weekly accounts payable check runs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, finance or related experience
  • 4-7 years of experience in property, fund or investment company accounting (CPA preferred, but not required)
  • Proficiency with Excel and experience with real estate general ledger accounting systems (Yardi preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
