Senior Accountant

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Senior Accountant will work cross functionally with the Accounting team, Operations and Magazine
team to carry out a variety of accounting, operations, and personal tasks. The successful candidate will
focus on accounting, cash management and financial reporting for a series of private real estate
investment properties at the portfolio and project level. Candidates will have experience in fund level and
or property accounting, possess strong quantitative skills and preferably will have worked in an
institutional real estate environment.

 

Essential Functions:


• Review of financial reports, both internal & externally managed entities
• Review monthly management fees and payroll reimbursements
• Send quarterly financial reports and distributions to a 3rd party owner
• Conduct monthly LLC state filings and dissolutions as necessary
• Work with CFO to organize and ensure appropriate insurance coverage
• Debt compliance review and completion for our lenders; additional assistance with financing of
   new or existing properties
• Administrator of multiple corporate credit cards
• Oversee AP and AR for the stabilized property portfolio
• Annual CAM and RE tax reconciliation for commercial tenants
• Work closely with property managers and leasing director to maintain tenant accounts
• Quarterly real estate tax payments and posting, 38D forms annually, and assist with tax abatements
   as necessary
• Manage the 1099 process annually

Additional Responsibilities:


10% of this role will include acting as Accounting Manager for a wholly-owned Magazine of the
organization:


• Responsible for running semi-monthly payroll for a team of four, including commissions
• Oversee AP and AR related tasks
• Utilize QuickBooks to manage all customer accounts, create invoices, statements, etc.
• File and send out annual 1099 forms
• Pay monthly credit card and reconcile

An additional 10 % of this role will include managing the checking account and credit cards for the
household of the firm’s owner and for his personal charitable foundation:


• Reconcile monthly checking accounts
• Handle all AP and AR for personal properties and the Foundation
• Ensure that the checking account balance is monitored and always funded
• Pay and book expenses for multiple personal credit cards
• Pay quarterly real estate and personal property tax bills

Our client is a privately-held real estate company known for operations and development of quality apartment homes, commercial properties, and luxury vacation rentals throughout New England.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Real estate experience is required; CPA preferred
  • QuickBooks and Yardi system knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting; review of financials
  • Ability to accurately reconcile and book property transactions; calculate gain/loss
  • 1031 Exchange; solid understanding of requirements, threshold (debt, acquisition price requirements) development plan
  • Understanding of tax guidelines
  • Strong Excel experience
  • Multi-tasker and team player
  • Ability to work with a variety of tenants, customers, vendors and all members of the team
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, seeking a self-starter who can take ownership of a variety of responsibilities in a proactive manner
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
