Our client is a privately held, 86-year-old real estate firm consisting of multifamily, commercial, and cooperatives. Now operating under the fourth generation of family leadership, the firm’s portfolio includes 39 communities consisting of 8,980 owned multifamily units in six states across the country and an additional 864 sponsor units and 32 managed cooperative units in New York.
Position Overview:
The firm is currently seeking a candidate to contribute to their investment and investment management businesses. For acquisitions, the Analyst/Associate will be required to conduct financial, property, market and industry research and create written and summary deliverables related to new investments. The ideal candidate will have the analytical skills to analyze and assist with both: (1) underwriting direct investments in one-off multifamily investments, and, (2) modeling core, value-add and opportunistic investment vehicles. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, strong interpersonal abilities are needed to interface with brokers, intermediaries, capital partners, investors, consultants, key industry players and the firm’s executives. This position is best suited for candidates with long term aspirations in the area of sourcing new investments as well as accessing and managing capital relationships, fundraising and investor relations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Analyze transactions and prepare executive summaries for offering memorandum
- Develop pro-forma financials and cash flow models
- Modeling and structuring investment vehicles, portfolio “roll-ups” and other financial analysis
- Research and evaluate economic, demographic, and real estate market data
- Prepare presentations and reports to communicate investment strategies and results
- Review and analyze various real estate documents including leases, rent rolls, tax summaries
- Assist in the preparation of materials for client meetings, internal and external
- Update and maintain due diligence databases and respond to data requests from existing and prospective investors
- Coordinate efforts and initiatives with the firm’s other verticals and key contributors
Qualifications/Experience:
- B.A./B.S. degree required; BS in finance and/or accounting preferred
- Ideally, the candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in the real estate industry in one of the following capacities: real estate investment sales/brokerage, real estate investment banking, commercial real estate lending/finance, direct real estate investment, or real estate appraisals for commercial property
- Proficient in advanced Microsoft software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong modeling skills with core competency in Excel
- High attention to detail in analytical assessments and valuations
- Excellent problem-solving and organization skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work well independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management and analytical skills required
- General understanding of real estate property metrics and exposure to the real estate fundraising process preferred
- Understanding of private real estate investment products and vehicle structures is an advantage
- Ability to work independently with structured supervision
- Willingness to travel as appropriate, but business travel is not required
