JOB DESCRIPTION

Company Overview: 

Our client is a national real estate investment firm involved in all phases of real estate management, development, and leasing. The company’s 67 properties are in approximately 17 states with a concentration in the northeast and include shopping centers, office buildings, and development sites.

 

Position Overview: 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting activities. The CFO will assume direct responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information treasury management provided to internal and external parties. This hire will be a key member of the senior management team and will play an integral role in planning and implementing the strategic growth of the company. Additionally, the CFO will lead the effort to ensure the proper systems, controls, infrastructure, and team members are in place to support the growth of the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Overall responsibilities include the accurate and timely accounting, analysis and financial reporting associated with assigned properties in the portfolio and more specifically:

 

·        Responsible for financial control, including accounting, reporting and production of financial statements for the firm.

·        Responsible for producing annual budget and strategic business plan.

·        Review analysis of detailed budget variance reports, income, expense, capital expenditures, leasing costs, NOI and cash flows.

·        Management of relationships with institutional investors and responsible for related financial reports.

·        Manage all banking relationships as the central point of contact; reconcile checking/savings accounts

·        Work alongside internal investment team and third-party professionals to accurately record all transaction activity related to acquisitions, financings/refinancings, distributions and divestitures

·        Manage hiring, retainment, and training of all accounting staff.

·        Oversee and manage property accountants including review and validation of accounts.

·        Attend quarterly board meetings and annual shareholder meeting.

·        Oversee all Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Tenant security deposits.

·        Oversee and follow up with property management regarding Account Receivable Aging and Collection.

·        Review and analyze tenant leases.

·        Account reconciliation, bank reconciliations, ad hoc reporting, analysis and miscellaneous projects.

·        Process property employees’ payroll and benefits.

·        Prepare real estate tax, operating expenses, and other escalation/pass-thru billings for tenants.

·        Prepare work papers for quarterly sales tax filings.

·        Maintain General Ledger, process journal entries and make all adjustments to the Financial Statements.

·        Manage and perform month-end close process including preparation of financial reporting packages and commentary to Managers.

·        Responsible for quarterly reporting to be submitted to OTC.

·        Prepare work papers and work with independent auditors in connection with annual audits.

·        Ability to handle tight deadlines and attend to other job-related requests as required.

 

Qualifications: 

·        10+ years of relevant accounting/finance responsibilities within a real estate firm. 

·        Bachelor’s degree with a record of academic achievement.

·        CPA designation, is preferred.

·        Well-versed in financial application systems (preferably YARDI & MRI)

·        Experience with a wide range of asset classes, office and retail asset exposure preferred

·        Experience managing third party vendors (e.g. construction general contractors, tax preparers, auditors), at a real estate company preferred

·        Experience managing a team of accountants and related staff, with strong leadership quality and ability to delegate work effectively.

·        Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present information in a clear and concise manner  

·        Ability to read and interpret real estate documents, agreements and reports
