Position Overview:

The Controller will report directly to and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to support all functions of financial reporting. The Controller will specifically be responsible for the management and leadership of the property accounting sub-team within the financial reporting department.



·         Provide leadership and guidance over the property accounting team while helping team members to further develop and grow in their roles

·         Participate in the development of and support the Company’s strategic plans

·         Monitor the financial performance of all Company assets and provide advice on how to increase revenue and reduce costs

·         Propose action plans to ensure that annual financial objectives are attained

·         Maintain speed and accuracy of all reporting

·         Oversee the day-to-day accounting of property assets, all property financial reporting and cash management

·         Review all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for investors, lenders, and internal users

·         Approve daily cash receipts and weekly check runs

·         Approve monthly mortgage payments and interest rate SWAPs

·         Review annual income and expense forms for real estate tax filings

·         Review construction draw schedules for active development projects

·         Support the annual budget and quarterly reforecast process

·         Compile quarterly reconciliations of corporate expenses and initiate the related reimbursement from the properties

·         Compile utility expense estimates for the annual property budgets and reforecasts

·         Assist in preparation of property acquisition, disposition, and financing closing statements

·         Provide support for the annual CAM process

·         Support lender reporting

·         Monitors accounts receivable for collection issues

·         Review waterfall calculations as needed

·         Successful completion of all external financial audits, including coordination of work with CPA firm and delivering information requested by auditors on a timely basis

·         All other projects as assigned



·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required

·         Must have at least 10 years of progressive experience, real estate industry highly preferred

·         Must have Yardi software experience, MRI experience is also desired

·         Must be very detail oriented with superior work ethic and have strong organizational skills

·         Demonstrate excellent organizational, leadership, relationship management, time management and verbal/written communication skills

·         Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office suite and experience with real estate general ledger accounting systems

·         Ability to interact in a team-oriented environment and show a willingness to collaborate and multitask

·         High degree of personal integrity and ability to work effectively in a dynamic work environment

·         Adaptability to changing demands

·         Effective problem-solving skills
