Firm Overview:

Our client is among the most experienced multifamily real estate operating companies in the United States providing acquisitions, entitlement, development, construction, renovation, property and asset management, and disposition services. Active in over 40 geographically diverse markets across the country and employing approximately 1,400 people, they provide new construction of luxury apartment homes, tax credit affordable housing properties, and renovated apartment homes in urban and suburban infill neighborhoods with specialized experience in mixed-use and transit-oriented attached housing communities.

Our client is a stable, national developer of apartments that is well capitalized and positioned to take advantage of the opportunities in the current cycle. The person is inheriting an existing region with two projects currently under construction.  The client targets core markets with populations greater than 1M that have been historically profitable in development, construction, and acquisition endeavors.

Position Overview:

The VP of Development is based in Fort Lauderdale and responsible for leading a staff in directing all development, functions for Florida. This position is also responsible for oversight of land acquisition, site feasibility, project entitlement, project financing, development, construction, asset management, and disposition of projects.

Required Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all development functions for the specific region.
  • Identifies, pursues, and negotiates potential land development opportunities.
  • Cultivates relationships with landowners, brokers, and financial sources.
  • Monitor development and construction processes to ensure projects are completed as scheduled.
  • Conducts site investigations, financial feasibility, project budgeting, and meetings.
  • Works in tandem with the internal capital markets team in underwriting and financing deals.
  • Manages division cash requirements and expenditures, project budgets, and schedules.
  • Performs project oversight function by working with Asset Management to maximize property value and position for sale of property.
  • Interviews, hires, trains and supervises team in assigned region.
  • Complies with all company national standards, applicable health and safety rules and regulations, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Will direct a team including a Director of Construction and Pre-development Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required for this position and a graduate degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in managing junior development staff and 10 years of real estate experience, with at least 5 years in the multi-family space is required.
  • Land acquisition experience is essential.
